On Monday, 5 June 2023, I will give a talk (In German) at the Naturhistorische Gesellschaft (NHG) in Nuremberg on "Historical Droughts in Europe".
In the drought summer of 2022, pictures of "hunger stones" in dried-up river basins went through the press. In many historical sources our ancestors documented contemporary droughts. For example, 1530 to 1540 was probably one of the driest summer decades in Central Europe in the last five centuries. I will give an overview of current research on historical droughts and attempt a cautious comparison with the droughts of recent years. The lecture will take place on Monday, 5.6.2023, at 19.30 in the Katharinensaal, Am Katharinenkloster 6, Nuremberg.
